Dr. Sanjay Agarwala is the Medical Director, Chief of Surgery and the Head of the Department of Orthopaedics at the Mumbai-based P.D. Hinduja National Hospital & Medical Research Centre. He ranked first in MBBS as well as in MS (Orth) from the University of Bombay. He obtained his M.Ch degree in Orthopedic Surgery from the University of Liverpool, U.K., and here he was awarded the Norman Roberts Medal. Dr. Agarwala specializes in fractures, trauma and joint replacement surgeries and therefore is an ADULT RECONSTRUCTIVE ORTHOPEDIC SPECIALIST. Dr. Sanjay Agarwala has successfully used Alendronate, a Bisphosphonate to treat AVN of the hip for the last 15 years with great success. Alendronate is most commonly used to treat osteoporosis prevents bone resorption. This has been reported in the journal of Rheumatology 2005 issue, in the JBJS 2009, and more recently in the Journal of Arthroplasty, October 2011. Relief was seen within a few weeks and 80% of patients became freely ambulant.
